How Android Oreo got it’s name?
Back in 2014, Google partnered with a company for an Android name. Android 4.4 was called KitKat(You all already know about KitKat :P).
And again this year Google has got its partner “Nabisco” and the name Oreo has been licensed from Nabisco.
What’s New In Android Oreo 8.0?
If you are having no idea about what are the upcoming new features of Android Oreo, here is a quick review about it:-
Android Oreo 8.0 is now ready with some new and more realistic emojis. Which will be in complete round shape and with more gradients. Now, it’s time to say goodbye to the emojis that we loved to use in the past. You will be introduced to 60+ new emojis 😉
Google has finally recognised the importance of password managers. So, in their new update, they are introducing autofill API that you will be able to select from the settings just like you can select Google keyboard or some other installed keyboard.
Adaptive Icons and Font Resources in XML
Android Oreo is also coming with different sets of icons so that different sets of icons will fit with the different style of phones depending on their screen size and their interface. The system also animates the interaction a little bit with icons.
And in Android 8.0 you can also add new fonts from the available fonts apps which provide new fonts in XML format.
Android O also supports high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs such as the LDAC codec from Sony as well as aptX support, which is a high-quality Bluetooth codec from Qualcomm.
And most important feature(from my point of view) that is about to be added in Android Oreo is Wi-Fi Aware, also known as Neighborhood Aware Networking (NAN). Devices which come with Wi-Fi Aware can discover each other and communicate with each other over Wi-Fi without an Internet access point.
Support for Wide-gamut colour for apps
Developers of imaging apps will currently make the most of latest devices that have a wide-gamut colour capable display. To show wide gamut pictures, apps can alter a flag in their manifest per activity and add bitmaps with an embedded wide color profile.
PiP Display for phones, and new Windowing features
Yes, PiP display will now be available for phones as well as tablets, so now you can now look forward to watching a YouTube video while answering a chat or any other such task.
Other new windowing features include a new app overlay window for apps to make use of and multi-display support for launching an activity on a remote display.
Increasing the battery life is one of the main focus of Google in Android 8.0 Oreo. So they have added some fixed priorities for all the apps that run in the background. Mainly focused on the following:-
- Implicit broadcasts
- Background services
- Location updates.
And the last but not the least Android Oreo’s notification has been updated too. This will allow developers to create a notification channel for each distinct type of notification that they need to send as well as to reflect choices made by users of the app. And you can also set priorities for all the different apps and when the notifications appear you can also snooze it for a while.
Currently, Android 8.0 Oreo is being pushed to Google devices only like Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixels. Google is also working closely with OEM partners like Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony to ensure that their new devices launch with the new Android 8.0 or their latest devices get the latest updates as soon as possible.
